The big creatures which are standing beside the bride called "genderuwo". They don't have any name. They pretend as the guard for the bride. They will say "Stay away from the bride!" or "Watch your distance!" if they can. They are made by bamboo. In Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, it called "ondel-ondel". They actually have the same size but different face. "Ondel-ondel's" face more look like human than "gendruwo's".

The "Pesto Giling" is a tradition to welcome the first harvest of sugar cane. A long time ago, the story said that there was a creature stay in the forest in Sragi. The creature and the human life separately in their own world. One day, a dutch had a plan to build a big sugar factory in the forest. He asked to the community leader in Sragi to open the forest. Then the community leader be imprisoned on the forest and met the creature. the creature said it was okay if the human would build the factory on the forest, but it had some requests. The first request was the creature would live on the factory and the second was there must be any offering to save the labor during sugar production period. The leader asked what kind of offering that it wanted. "The bride".Then the creature was dissapear.

So, there was really bride who was offered to the creature by putting them on the grinding machine. *yuck

But now, the bride is changed with the flavor bride. I don't even know when the really bride change into the imitation bride. Last year, there was no offering and in the production period one of the sugar factory part was burning. The news here.
